Pilot Interview Preparation

Airline pilot selection often combines an application review, aptitude or simulator assessments, a technical interview and a competency or HR interview. Formats vary widely between airlines and between cadet and experienced-pilot entry, so use this page as general preparation only.

How airline pilot selection usually works

Many airlines assess technical knowledge, situational awareness, decision making, teamwork and communication. Cadet programmes tend to focus on potential and aptitude, while experienced-pilot recruitment usually reviews licences, ratings, flying hours and type experience. Check the specific programme requirements on the airline's official site.

Practice questions to prepare

Practice Question examples: Why do you want to be an airline pilot? Why this airline? Describe a time you made a difficult decision under pressure. Tell me about a mistake and what you learned. How do you work with crew who disagree with you? Describe your understanding of crew resource management.

Technical and non-technical preparation

Refresh core aviation knowledge relevant to your licence level, be ready to explain your flying history honestly, and practise clear radio-style communication. For behavioural questions use the STAR method. Be prepared to discuss safety culture, reporting errors and working as part of a crew.

Common mistakes to avoid

Avoid overstating your hours or experience, guessing technical answers instead of saying what you would check, criticising former employers, and treating the interview as only a test of technical knowledge. Honesty and professionalism matter as much as skill.

This is general educational information. Licence, medical, hours and selection requirements are set by each airline and aviation authority and change over time. JobNeste does not guarantee interviews or job offers. Always check the airline's official careers website.
